Liquidation price calculator

Find the price where a leveraged long or short is liquidated before you open it. The calculator uses Hyperliquid's own formula and margin tiers, for isolated and cross margin, and runs entirely in your browser.

Liquidation price72,911

Margin used$1,000.00
Loss at liquidation$886.08

Isolated margin: the position can only lose the margin you put in it. Fees, funding and the mark price can move the real liquidation a little.

How the liquidation price is calculated

A leveraged position is liquidated when its losses eat the margin down to the maintenance margin, the minimum the exchange requires to keep it open. On Hyperliquid the maintenance margin is half of the initial margin at the coin's max leverage: a coin that allows 40× has a maintenance margin of 1.25% of the position value.

PositionLiquidation price
Isolated longentry × (1 − 1 / leverage) ÷ (1 − maintenance margin)
Isolated shortentry × (1 + 1 / leverage) ÷ (1 + maintenance margin)
Cross long(entry − account value ÷ coins) ÷ (1 − maintenance margin)
Cross short(entry + account value ÷ coins) ÷ (1 + maintenance margin)

Coins is the position size in the coin itself (position size in dollars ÷ entry). Example: a 10× BTC long at $80,000 with a 1.25% maintenance margin is liquidated at 80,000 × 0.9 ÷ 0.9875 ≈ $72,911, 8.86% under the entry.

Very large positions use higher margin tiers with a larger maintenance margin. The calculator applies Hyperliquid's tiers for the coin you pick, the same way the exchange does.

Isolated or cross margin

Isolated margin puts a fixed amount behind one position: the position value divided by the leverage. If it is liquidated, you lose that margin and nothing else. Here the leverage decides the liquidation price.

Cross margin uses the whole account value as collateral. Leverage only decides how much margin the position takes when it opens; the liquidation price depends on the account value, so adding funds moves it further away. The flip side: a liquidation can take the whole account, and losses on other cross positions bring it closer.

The exchange triggers liquidations on the mark price, not on the last trade, and funding payments and fees change the margin over time. Treat the result as a very close estimate and keep a buffer.

How to stay away from your liquidation price

  • Use less leverage. At 5× a BTC long survives a drop of about 19%; at 20× a drop of under 4% is enough.
  • Put a stop loss well before the liquidation price. A stop closes the trade on your terms and keeps the rest of the margin.
  • Keep your liquidation price out of liquidation clusters. Prices where many positions would be liquidated attract the price. The liquidation map shows where they are, and How to read a liquidation heatmap explains why price goes there.
  • Size the position for the stop. A smaller position with a wider stop risks the same money and survives the wicks that reach the obvious levels.

Frequently asked questions

How is the liquidation price calculated?

It is the price where the position's losses leave only the maintenance margin. For an isolated long: entry × (1 − 1/leverage) ÷ (1 − maintenance margin). For an isolated short: entry × (1 + 1/leverage) ÷ (1 + maintenance margin).

Why does my exchange show a slightly different price?

Fees, funding, the mark price and other cross positions all change the margin. Large positions can also fall into a higher margin tier. The figure your exchange shows for an open position is the one that counts.

Does leverage change the liquidation price in cross margin?

No. In cross margin the account value backs the position, so the liquidation price depends on the account value and the position size, not on the leverage you set.

Can I use it for Binance, Bybit, OKX or Lighter?

Yes, as an estimate: type any coin and enter that exchange's maintenance margin rate for your position size. The Hyperliquid tiers are applied only to Hyperliquid coins.

Is the calculator free?

Yes. It needs no account and runs in your browser; what you type is not sent to MyLiquidBot.
